The Indigenous Knowledge Roadmap project, funded by the Kellogg Foundation, focuses on shared stakeholder responsibility to enhance the quality of education for Indigenous students and their communities. This project is building off of past work from the New Mexico Highlands University Schools of Education and Social Work, which aimed to collaborate with Indigenous communities to address inequities in Native American education, including funding, teaching resources, and professional development for teachers in staff. This is particularly poignant after the 2018 Yazzie/Martinez court ruling.

The project aims to build an Indigenous Roadmap for Higher Education through the following missions:

  •      Collaborating with regional tribes and Pueblos and national and local associations to cultivate a community of engaged partners.
  •      Establishing agreements between the NMHU School of education and Indigenous governments.
  •      Working with participating entities to create a shared vision of curriculum, practices, and policies to advance relationships with local school districts and institutions of higher education.
